Can an elevator ride decide the next purchase?

At Walo Rooftop Bar in Turku, background music and brief audio ads were installed in the elevator to enhance the customer journey and spark interest in the bar’s offerings before guests even reach the top floor. The energetic soundtrack and targeted messaging have received positive feedback from both patrons and staff, improving overall atmosphere through a clever use of audio.

Walo Rooftop Bar is Turku’s first year-round rooftop bar, where guests can enjoy a relaxed atmosphere, refreshing drinks, and city views from a prime location. To take patrons to the top floors, an elevator equipped with background music and advertisements enhances the experience and sparks interest in the bar’s offerings. When the elevator doors open, customers might already have a drink in mind they want to try.

Active speakers and Toneco’s latest Black Box player were installed in the elevator. An energetic party music playlist was chosen to lift the mood on the way to the restaurant. Short, timed audio ads were included to strengthen campaigns and boost sales.

Timo Hällfors, Group Manager at Turku Cooperative, shares how the idea has worked: “The elevator has received positive feedback from both customers and staff, and people like it. TOK and Toneco have collaborated wonderfully and are developing new solutions for customers to enjoy. The elevator manufacturer Kone was also involved in the installation. With a small change, we achieved a significant improvement in atmosphere.”
